Homeless Healthcare Collaborative street medicine team brings care to our community
Since 2022, UCLA Health's Homeless Healthcare Collaborative program has cared for thousands of unhoused people in our Los Angeles community. Our street medicine care model is unlike any other in L.A. County, with mobile clinics travel directly to people experiencing homelessness on the streets and in shelters, encampments, interim housing sites, libraries and soup kitchens. We deliver care seven days a week.
Hear from patients Bobby Joe and Kelly about the mobility of services. Our unique care model enables us to address the needs of unhoused individuals, regardless of their insurance coverage, immigration status or other factors.

Colorectal cancer diagnoses are increasing: what can we do?
Просмотров 591Месяц назад
Since 1995, there has been a 45% increase in colorectal cancer diagnoses in people under the age of 50. The recommended age for your first colorectal cancer screening has been lowered from age 50 to 45. Although diagnoses are increasing, it’s estimated that more than half of colorectal cancer deaths could be prevented by early detection through screening. Start screening early and continue to h...

Im 54 and woke up one morning in 2013, out of nowhere with a painful erection. I had no idea what was going on. It stopped once I was flacid but hurt when I got erect that night. I should've gone to the Dr but thought it was something that would go away. The pain actually stopped in a day or so, but ever since its 2.5 inches shorter (I WAS almost 7", now about 4.5"). Been to the dr a bunch of times but they were never able to fix it. Now, I've been single for 10 years because im so embarrassed and humiliated to be with a girl, even if I tell her whats going on. At a dead end and will probably just stay single rather than humilate myself trying to have sex. Not worth it to me.

I got diagnosed in 2010. Had a total thyroidectomy, followed by radioactive iodine treatment, followed by annual thyroid/neck ultrasounds, blood tests, etc. I got the all clear in 2011 and remain cancer free today. I worked as an orthopedic tech - spent TONS of hours in the xray rooms helping with patient positioning, etc. I wore the apron faithfully, but never even thought about wearing a thyroid shield.

Second hand smoke doesn't kill people. It's been proven over and over again. You people on here, are the same ones that believed every bit of garbage that you were fed about Covid, which was all completely false. Any toxins in smoke, first go through a filter. Then the vast, vast majority of what's left is deposited into the smoker's lungs and bloodstream. Then it floats around in the air for awhile, diluting it even further, and eventually you might possibly inhale a miniscule amount through your nose. Now, the human nose has microscopic hairs called cilia. Humans have them specifically to filter out particles in the air, such as dust etc. So, by the time all of that happens, you might, under the best of circumstances, get one one thousandth of the amount of anything harmful from that cigarette that the smoker got. And there have been millions and millions of people in this world for centuries, that have smoked 2 or 3, or even 4 packs of cigarettes a day, sometimes even unfiltered, for 40 or 50 years, and lived into their 80's and 90's. So, how is it even remotely possible, that someone "smelling" smoke for a few seconds, a few times a month maybe, to have any health effects from that whatsoever?? It's not even close to being realistic. Both of my grandmother's passed away recently. Both had started smoking in their late teens. They both died in their early 90's, from natural causes. Not from cancer of any kind, and not from smoking. That's over 70 years, heavy smoking. But someone is going to, for a few seconds, breathe in some almost completely diluted smoke, and develop cancer, or just die on the spot?? Have any of you put any real logical thought into this at all? This isn't Ebola or mustard gas we're talking about here. It's all about the insurance lobbyists, that have an extreme amount of pull, forcing a propaganda campaign and buying off politicians. Follow the money, always follow the money. Just major insurance companies trying to save money because some smokers, especially middle aged to older men, with other contributing factors, like obesity or alcoholism or extremely high stress, do tend to die younger or have medical issues sooner. But what the HELL does any of that have to do with people that don't smoke? It doesn't. You just don't like it, you have some issues of your own, and you want to feel empowered by controlling someone else's life. Or trying to make them as miserable as you are. Happy and well adjusted people, tend to adopt the live and let live philosophy. Unhappy and screwed up and insecure people, well, they find something or someone to attack, when it's absolutely not affecting them, and absolutely none of their business. Almost every single place in this country has been made smoke free, including outdoor areas. Most people that don't own, can't even smoke inside their own homes anymore. Even though they are paying 60 to 70 percent of their income on it, and hurting no one. So what's the next step? What do you want? Form an SS or KGB or Gestapo type organization, and flush out the rest of the smokers that are hiding somewhere, trying to sneak a cigarette, in a place where it isn't going to affect anyone else? You now have control of 99.9% of every place in this country, as far as smoking goes. Can the millions of us that do still smoke, somehow hang onto that last .10% of the area that we have left? I'm permanently disabled due to fighting in a foreign land for the rights of every one of you. Would you mind too much if I sat out on my back patio and had a smoke every once in awhile?? Wow, I surely would appreciate it.

Why would you stay with a doctor who treats you like a mental case? Just because a doctor can’t figure out the problem doesn’t mean there is nothing physically wrong. I know a guy who has had intractable abdominal pain for 9+ years. He is not depressed, not anxious, not worried, and stopped believing that a doctor could actually help him years ago. He’s pretty much a real-life Spock. No medication of any kind has helped; some have made it worse. His pain is ever-present and debilitating. Is it all still in his head, mindset, or expectations?

I went today early hoping i would see the Radiation Dr. His nurse saw me. We walked right pass him in the hall. She said i could have developed a blood clot or it could be cellulitis. I jave a low grade fever. Now I'm scared about throwing a clot. Wss told to go to ER if i felt worse tomorrow. Really? My foot has blisters i am sick. But try to take your radiation, we're about there. Six more. I just can't. Not going tomorrow going to the ER,but i hope they don't say talk to your Drs. I already have. They said go to hospital. I saw a man in the waiting sub room. I had seen him before. I asked how he was doing. Fine he said but he doesn't come every day, only when he can Didn't know you could do that. Im bed with a clean wet dish towel wrapped around my foot. It relieves a little of the burning. Took Motrin ,doesn't help. Feel like giving up.😢
